I came across an interesting post on using the Guided Access feature from the settings menu on an iPad or iPod Touch to ensure children are staying on the assigned activity and not switching to a favorite game.
This made me think of an idea for this month’s Teaching Tip. Children are constantly being ‘hooked up’ to technology – there are so many ‘educational’ apps now available for SMARTboards, iPads, etc. and both parents and teachers are using them more and more frequently. Yes, I’ve started producing apps for Itchy!! Given this, I wanted to reinforce the importance of direct interaction with children – we can’t lose sight of spending quality time with children, whether through instruction or simply play. Not only does this give us an opportunity to observe how the child is doing, but it also ensures continued growth of their language skills.
