I always recommend having parents in for a meeting early in the school year. I know it is a significant time commitment, but the investment can pay off with huge dividents for both you and your students. As well as going over your classroom routines and expectations, I recommend taking the time to review letter sounds and lower case letter formations with the parents. If we can get them supporting at home with the same skills you are introducing at school it can result in significant growth in student skills. Realistically, you won’t get everyone – having food or a prize is a motivator to get them there!
